BROWNSTOWN, Ind. – For several years, the “No Way Out 40” has kicked off the Indiana sprint car schedule. For this year’s edition at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway, Hunter Schuerenberg was behind the wheel of the Seth Motsinger Motorsports entry, and though the team was strong early in the night, contact with an infield tire put them out of the main event shortly after the green flag dropped.

Schuerenberg, who will drive the SMM No. 2 on about 25 occasions this season, got the night underway with a 14.299-second lap in qualifying to go fifth-quick in the second of four heat race groups. Starting his heat race from that position, “Hunter Percent” charged forward three spots to finish in second behind last year’s USAC National champion Robert Ballou.

For the main event, which aligned heads-up from heat race finish, Schuerenberg and the Kistler-powered Eagle Chassis rolled off from outside the third row. Holding his own in the early going, the Sikeston, Missouri native negotiated the bottom line of the track and clipped an infield tire marker on the third lap. With the front axle damaged, Schuerenberg retired the Illuminated Water machine to the pit area and was scored in the 20th position.

Schuerenberg would like to thank Roof Bolt Express, Nolen Racing, Mach 1 Chassis, Eddie Gilstrap Motors, Illuminated Water, Competition Suspension Inc., AFCO Racing, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, Hinchman Racewear, Keizer Wheels, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Smith Precision Products, High Side Design, and Ron Gorby’s Howard Johnson, as well as all of his fans for their continued support.

Schuerenberg is next scheduled to compete on April 2 at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind. with the USAC National Sprint Cars in the Seth Motsinger Motorsports No. 2 410ci wingless sprint entry, and on April 3 at Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, Ind. with the USAC Silver Crown Series for the “Sumar Classic” in the Jack Rogers Motorsports No. 57 champ car entry.
