Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order a racing suit?

The easiest way to order a suit is to call us or stop by our shop.

What do I need to know before placing my suit order?

By browsing our website, you will be able to answer the following questions:
-Will it be a 1-Piece or 2-Piece suit?
-Which of our 3 liner choices would you like?
-Would you like the outer layer of your suit in the standard Gabardine or upgraded to the "Premium Outer Shell?"
-Which Design Style would you like, and which color combination within that style?
-Which, if any, additional options do you require?
-We will need you to fill out our measurement page (available on our Downloads Page).
-Will you require embroidery beyond your name on the belt or left chest (If so, please read FAQ on Custom Embroidery)?
-We will need your contact information: Name, Billing Address, Shipping Address if different, Phone Number, and E-mail Address.

Do you offer Custom Embroidery?

We do offer Custom Embroidery on new suit orders (See FAQ on 'How do I order Custom Embroidery on my Suit?').
We do not embroider suits that have already been assembled. For other items (shirts, hats, jackets, etc.), please call Fran at Stitches 2 at 317-271-3444.

Do you repair or alter suits?

Available late August through November only
Hinchman will perform repairs or alterations only on garments that we have originally manufactured. We also reserve the right to decline to repair or alter garments based on their condition, particularly if they are deemed past their service life and/or are soiled to the point of flammability.
All garments must be received freshly laundered. Any garments received not freshly laundered will incur an additional $75 laundering fee.
Pricing is based on time and materials used.
Please call before sending a repair or alteration.

How do I wash my race suit?

Garment Care
Garments of NOMEX can be cleaned by home or commercial laundry or by dry cleaning procedures without loss of their outstanding protective features. The following suggestions will help you keep your garments looking neat and attractive.
ALWAYS fasten Velcro (collar and belt) and close zipper to prevent fraying.
Laundering
• Pre-treat greasy stains and collar/cuff lines with a product such as Spray ‘N Wash or Shout.
• Launder garments of NOMEX only with other garments of NOMEX to help avoid surface entrapment of flammable lint and to minimize static in the tumble dryer.
• Do not overload home laundry equipment. Wash garments in warm water with a mild detergent such as Era, Tide, Cheer, Woolite, etc. ( no bleach) .
• For maximum fire protection, greases and oils should be thoroughly removed from garments of NOMEX after each wearing. If home procedures do not accomplish this, commercial laundering or dry cleaning is recommended.

What is SFI ? And why is it important?

The SFI Foundation, Inc. is an independent organization which develops, implements, and administers minimum standards for racing equipment manufacturers. The specification covering driving uniforms is SFI Spec 3.2A.
SFI Spec 3.2A provides for testing of suits in controlled laboratory conditions. Of concern to the race driver is the approximate time a specific garment will provide protection from a second-degree (blistering) burn.
A rating is assigned to a particular type garment of specific construction. The uniforms are categorized with a Thermal Protective Performance (TPP) rating. This rating is expressed as a heat level from which a second-degree burn would probably be incurred.
The SFI 3.2A ranking, the TTP rating and the approximate time to a second-degree burn are tabled below:
