PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Back and forth between wing and nonwing racing, honing his skills in both, Hunter Schuerenberg was back to wingless over the weekend for a pair of northern Indiana events in Jeff Walker’s No. 11 Maxim. Filling in for Dave Darland, who was racing in Belleville, Kan., Schuerenberg navigated Walker’s machine to two top-five efforts before handing the controls back over to Darland.

Beginning the weekend at Gas City I-69 Speedway’s “Gas City Shootout,” Schuerenberg was quickest in his qualifying group, and with a top-four invert, was slated to start from fourth in heat one. A steady drive forward resulted in a second-place finish.

The strong preliminary efforts put Schuerenberg outside the front row for the main event, and he took the point on the start. Contact through turn four on the opening circuit allowed Robert Ballou to sneak by and into the lead, and Jon Stanbrough rapidly moved from seventh into second shortly after. Schuerenberg clicked off lap after lap in third, but faced Tyler Courtney rallying into third on the final lap to knock him back to fourth.

A special event being made up from July 25 was up next, as Plymouth Speedway hosted wingless 410 sprint cars for just the second time this season. Two heat races were set up by pill draw, and the Sikeston, Mo. native gridded from third in heat one. After the polesitter dropped out, he and Logan Jarrett battled for the lead early, before Jarrett pulled away slightly. Schuerenberg crossed the line to finish second, but not before building a lengthy gap between himself and the remainder of the field.

Starting fourth for the 30-lapper, “Hunter Percent” shot to second on the start, trailing Courtney for the first 23 laps. Pressure from Tyler Hewitt and Shane Cottle ultimately saw both drivers pass Schuerenberg on the following round, and it wasn’t long before he fell a final position, completing the last five laps in fifth place.

Schuerenberg would like to thank Roof Bolt Express, Nolen Racing, Mach 1 Chassis, Competition Suspension Inc., AFCO Racing, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, Hinchman Racewear, Keizer Wheels, High Side Design, and Ron Gorby’s Howard Johnson, as well as all of his fans for their continued support.

Schuerenberg is next scheduled to compete on August 7-8 at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo. for the World of Outlaws’ “Ironman 55,”, on August 9 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa for the “Capitani Classic,” and on August 10 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa for the National Sprint League’s “Front Row Challenge,” all in the No. 20N 410ci winged sprint entry.
